Rome is in Italy which is a peninsula. The landscape of Rome is very similar to Greece. The people who settled in itally were not split up into small, isolated communities as the greeks. Italy also had great farming.

At first they fought like the Greeks in lines ,but discovered that was to slow and hard to control. They then reorganized soldiers into smaller groups called legions which had 6000 men and were divided into groups of 60-120. This helped them cut through enemy lines.
